Just a few days in to 2017 and we have some good news about elephant welfare and conservation.

Rhode Island is the first state in the USA to ban bullhooks, and China has announced it will shut down it’s domestic ivory market by the end of the year. The China story is a big deal, especially for African elephants that are the source of most of China’s ivory. I haven’t seen any speculation on how this will affect the ivory trade in the rest of Asia. If anyone has seen any stories on this let me know.
